Gary Holden, President and CEO of ENMAX Corporation, has been named Calgary’s “Businessman of the Year” for 2008/2009 by the Consumers’ Choice Institute.
Mr. Holden received a Consumers’ Choice Award for the designation on Sunday, February 8, at the institute’s eighth annual Calgary Gala. The event was held at the Hyatt Regency Calgary with 500 business leaders in attendance.
Mr. Holden received the title through an independent survey conducted in October 2008 by Léger Marketing. Members of the Calgary business community were asked to answer the following question: “We would like to know your opinion about the Calgary companies in various sectors which have distinguished themselves the most in the last year. Please consider the elements of quality, value, service and appearance of the business.”
“For individuals chosen to receive this honour, the Consumers’ Choice Award not only constitutes a crowning achievement of their efforts, but also represents that they have won the respect of their fellow Calgarians,” said Ami Peleg, President of the Consumers’ Choice Awards.
“I’m truly honored to have this title and I’d like to thank the Calgary business community for selecting me to receive this award,” said Mr. Holden.
Other Consumers’ Choice Award recipients honored at the Gala include: Ms. Ruth Ramsden-Wood, President of United Way of Calgary and Area as “Business Woman of the Year”; Chief Rick Hanson, Chief of Calgary Police, as “Man of the Year”; and Ms. Irene Lewis, President of SAIT as “Woman of the Year”. The “Man” and “Woman of the Year” were selected by the Calgary general public, also through a Léger Marketing independent survey.
Previous recipients of the Calgary Businessman of the Year awards are: Clive Beddoe, Garald W. Schwartz, Jim Pattison, Jean Coutu, Frank Stronach, John Forzani, and Darryl Sutter.
