ENMAX Energy Acquires Calgary Energy Centre
For Immediate Release
Calgary, Alberta
19 DEC 2008

ENMAX Energy Corporation (“ENMAX Energy”), through an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, today announced it has purchased the Calgary Energy Centre (“CEC”), a 300 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired power plant, from Kelson Canada LP (“Kelson”). The transaction has received Ministerial authorization under Section 95 (10) of the Electric Utilities Act of Alberta.

“The purchase is another step in ENMAX Energy’s strategy to acquire secure, cost-effective electricity supply for its customers,” noted Dave Rehn, Executive Vice-President, Generation and Wholesale Energy, ENMAX Corporation. “This will also allow more flexible operation of the power plant in alignment with other ENMAX Energy generation assets such as the 120 MW Crossfield Energy Centre which is scheduled for completion in 2009. These plants are an excellent compliment to ENMAX Energy’s wind projects as they give us the ability to run them to firm up our electricity supply in times of low wind.”

Prior to the purchase, ENMAX Energy had a 20 year tolling agreement with Kelson whereby Kelson operated the plant and ENMAX Energy dispatched the plant to supply its customers. ENMAX Energy will now own and operate the facility through an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary.

The CEC is a 300 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant on the northern boundary of Calgary. It began operation in 2003 under Calpine Power, L.P., and was purchased by Kelson in 2007.
