On Saturday May 10, 100 children will take their seats in ENMAX Hall at Winspear Centre – many for the first time – and spend the next few hours trading their reality for drama, music and the joy of live performing arts.
It’s an event made possible by ENMAX Energy and the Kids Up Front Foundation, a local agency that distributes tickets to children who otherwise might not have such an opportunity.
“Children need more than the basic necessities,” remarked ENMAX President Gary Holden. “They need to be exposed to new thinking and to concepts that will help them grow emotionally and spiritually. Exposure to the arts is a natural way to achieve that.”
The theatrical version of the long-told ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ story will introduce some unexpected twists and turns to captivate the audiences’ attention. The special guests will then have an opportunity to meet performers at a reception in the upstairs lobby.
“In Edmonton, 18 per cent of children live in poverty,” added Karla Schell, Executive Director, Kids Up Front (Edmonton). “We applaud ENMAX for putting these kids up front and by making it possible for them to discover the joy of music at the Winspear Centre.”
