ENMAX supports 500kV line
For Immediate Release
Calgary
08 May 2007

Following ENMAX Energy's April announcement of a planned 1,200 MW power station near Calgary, conflicting claims have been made about the implications of this development for the proposed 500 kV line between Edmonton and Calgary.

In the light of this, we wish to reiterate and emphasize the statement made by ENMAX CEO Gary Holden, in the April 19 announcement on this
issue:

"The (500 kV) line will enhance system reliability and its development is consistent with the requirements of the Transmission Regulation. We are therefore fully supportive of the 500 kV facility currently under review, and recognize the need for its construction. We will be very happy to see this (ENMAX 1200 MW) plant and the North-South transmission line working together for system security in the Southern part of Alberta."

"The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board rendered a decision approving the need for the 500 kV line in April 2005 and ENMAX supports that decision," said Holden today.  "The construction of our new 1,200 MW station in Southern Alberta may impact the need for future transmission lines beyond the approved 500 kV facility, but we wish to clearly reiterate our support for the approved 500 kV line."

ENMAX Corporation and its predecessors have provided Albertans with safe and reliable electricity for 100 years. ENMAX provides electricity, natural gas, renewable energy and value-added services to more than 500,000 residential, commercial and industrial customer accounts in Alberta through its subsidiary companies. ENMAX Energy contracts low-cost reliable electricity from the Keephills and Battle River coal-fired plants and meets peak demand through a long term agreement with the natural gas fired Calgary Energy Centre. Through a subsidiary, it is one of Alberta’s largest investors in renewable energy with 50 per cent ownership of the McBride Lake Wind Farm and 100 per cent ownership of the Taber Wind Farm. ENMAX Energy has the largest green power marketing program of its kind in Canada and in 2006, received the Consumer Champion Award for its ground-breaking EasyMax® program.
