ENMAX Corporation today announced net earnings of $130.1 million for 2006, an 11.5 per cent increase over 2005.

“This was a great year for ENMAX, our owners and our customers,” said ENMAX President and CEO, Gary Holden.  “We’re offering the best electricity prices in the province while building value for our shareholder.”

Electricity sales in 2006 were 12,652 gigawatt hours, compared to 9,804 gigawatt hours sold in 2005, an increase of 29 per cent.  Natural gas sales also rose strongly, from 11,120 TJ in 2005 to 17,980 TJ in 2006: an increase of 62 per cent.

A significant part of the growth in 2006 came from the success of the EasyMax program, which offers customers clear, concise and competitively priced contracts for electricity and natural gas that can be changed or cancelled by the customer at any time without penalty.

During the year, ENMAX also invested $102.7 million to upgrade and maintain infrastructure and expand its transmission and distribution networks and increase reliability to meet the needs of Canada’s fastest growing city.

ENMAX paid $12.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2006 to complete the $50 million total dividend the Company declared to its shareholder for the year.

ENMAX Corporation and its predecessors have provided Albertans with safe and reliable electricity for 100 years. ENMAX provides electricity, natural gas, renewable energy and value-added services to more than 500,000 residential, commercial and industrial customer accounts in Alberta through its subsidiary companies. ENMAX Energy contracts low-cost reliable electricity from the Keephills and Battle River coal-fired plants and meets peak demand through a long term agreement with the natural gas fired Calgary Energy Centre. Through a subsidiary, it is one of Alberta’s largest investors in renewable energy with 50 per cent ownership of the McBride Lake Wind Farm and 100 per cent ownership of the Taber Wind Farm. ENMAX Energy has the largest green power marketing program of its kind in Canada and in 2006, received the Consumer Champion Award for its ground-breaking EasyMaxTM program.
