ENMAX Energy Corporation and the Calgary Zoo today announce plans to work together in the development of the new ENMAX Conservatory, a showcase for innovative and environmentally-friendly energy technology.  The new facility will show visitors the benefits of lifestyle and energy provision choices that will reduce their personal ecological footprint.  The exhibit will also feature interactive displays that illustrate alternative and emerging sources of sustainable energy and promote development practices for the City of Calgary that exemplify responsible environment management. 

“The new ENMAX Conservatory will preserve key elements of the existing Conservatory structure and functions,” explains Dr. Clément Lanthier, Calgary Zoo Interim President & CEO.  “In keeping with the mission of the Calgary Zoo, this model facility will promote an integration of zoological and botanical features for the combined purpose of recreation, education, conservation and scientific study, but within an environmentally friendly building envelope.”

The ENMAX Conservatory, incorporating at least five alternate sources of energy, will become a living classroom for the more than 30,000 Calgary school children who participate in school programs at the Zoo and the more than 1.2 million people who visit the Zoo annually.  A highlight of the project, already on site, is the only working wind turbine within the city.

A News Conference will be held today at the Calgary Zoo at 12:00 p.m. to announce details of the project and unveil the conceptual designs for the new and exciting ENMAX Conservatory. 

Representatives from ENMAX, the Calgary Zoo, City of Calgary and Alberta Environment will be on hand for interview opportunities.
