“Alberta’s children will not achieve their potential – and neither will the province – if they start the day hungry at school,” said ENMAX President and CEO Gary Holden today as he announced the company’s new initiative to raise funds for Breakfast for Learning Alberta. Until May 31, ENMAX will donate $50 to this non-profit agency for each residential customer that signs up for the company’s EasyMax® program. ENMAX has set a donation goal of $100,000. This campaign, called The Power of Possibility, was made possible through Alberta’s Promise.
“We all have a collective interest and responsibility to make sure the children in our province are well fed,” said Holden at Alberta’s Promise’s Red Wagon Ceremony recognizing the efforts of new and existing partners such as ENMAX. “Our commitment to Alberta’s Promise is an expression of our belief in possibility. It is possible to assure that children in Alberta are eating regular, nutritious meals every day.”
BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING (BFL) Alberta is part of a national non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure every child attending school in Canada is well-nourished and ready to learn. Founded in 1992 by the editors of Canadian Living Magazine, BFL has helped feed more than 1.5 million children in Canada through thousands of programs and with the help of dedicated volunteers. The partnership with ENMAX will direct funds to local programs throughout Alberta. Since 1992, BFL Alberta has supported more than 360 school breakfast, lunch and snack programs in the province benefiting 31,100 children.
“Our children depend on us to help them get the nutrition they need to have a great day at school,” said Marilyn Gunn, Chairperson of BFL Alberta Advisory Council. “Too often students go hungry when they shouldn’t. I applaud ENMAX for demonstrating their commitment to kids in Alberta by donating to BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING.”
