ENMAX Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENMAX Corporation, announced today it will continue to supply electricity for all federal facilities in Alberta for the next ten years effective January 2007.
The federal government initiated a competitive energy procurement process in mid 2005 and chose ENMAX Energy to continue to be their energy retailer. “For the last five years, the federal government has been very pleased with the honesty, integrity, and capability of ENMAX to address our energy requirements. We are truly excited and looking forward to building and establishing a mutually beneficial long term relationship with ENMAX,” said Lou Hiemer, Project Manager, Public Works and Government Services Canada.
The agreement calls for ENMAX Energy to supply electricity services to all 938 federal facilities in the province covering all eleven federal government client departments. The volume of electricity to be supplied is approximately 235,000 megawatt hours per year, with 15% (34,000 MWh) of this volume to be accounted for as green power.
This procurement process has enabled the federal government to address their energy supply requirements at a competitive market price. ENMAX Energy will also make available a suite of energy-related services to help its clients understand, manage, and optimize the demand side utilization of electricity which can result in further savings to the federal government.
“We’re pleased to be chosen by the Canadian federal government and are delighted we were able to come up with a competitive, long term energy plan that meets their needs,” said Gary Holden, ENMAX President and CEO.
ENMAX Corporation and its predecessors have provided Albertans with safe and reliable electricity for over 100 years. ENMAX provides electricity, natural gas, renewable energy and value-added services to more than 457,500 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Alberta through its subsidiary companies. In addition to owning 50 per cent of the McBride Lake Wind Farm – one of Canada’s largest wind power facilities – the company has the first and largest green power marketing program of its kind in Canada. In 2006, ENMAX Energy Corporation received the Consumer Champion Award for its ground-breaking EasyMax program. For more information, visit our website at enmax.com.
