ENMAX Expands Green Power Generation
For Immediate Release
Alberta
23 August 2006

ENMAX Energy Corporation and its partners have been chosen by BC Hydro to develop four green energy generation projects totalling 32 megawatts (MW) – enough electricity to power 35,000 homes. The projects will come on stream over the next three years.

Two of the projects, chosen as part of BC Hydro’s 2006 Open Call for Power, are run-of-river hydro plants of 10 MW each on the Clowhom River, north of Sechelt.  These will be developed by Hydromax Energy Ltd., ENMAX’s business venture with Eaton Power Corporation, which developed the successful Furry Creek 10MW run-of-river hydro plant.

The remaining two projects will generate clean electricity using waste heat recovered from gas compressor stations along Duke Energy’s Southern Mainline gas pipeline in BC.  Developed by Enpower Green Energy Corporation, a corporation jointly owned by ENMAX and Pristine Power Inc., the units will use proven technology to create a combined gross generation capacity of approximately 12 MW.

“This marks a substantial step forward in our green power generation portfolio, which includes two wind power projects in Southern Alberta” said Gary Holden, CEO of ENMAX Energy Corporation.  “These are low risk projects because they are not vulnerable to fossil fuel costs and are secured by 25-year sales arrangements with BC Hydro.  Our success is an important vote of confidence by BC Hydro in ENMAX Energy, our partners and our technologies.”

All of the projects in BC Hydro’s Call for Power are subject to final approval by the BC Utilities Commission.

ENMAX Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of ENMAX Corporation, is Alberta’s leading competitive electricity retailer.
