Lord Beaverbrook High School and ENMAX Corporation, through its wholly owned subsidiary ENMAX Energy, today announced the ENMAX Centre of Excellence, a new program, focused on Career Pathways and environmental education. As part of the Energy, Science and Applied Technology Pathway, students will be supported in linking their curriculum and community experiences to their own career plans. Some of the specific topics included in the new program include e-recycling, energy audits, water conservation, and fostering leadership skills in Calgary high school students.
"Through this partnership, our students will have the opportunity to explore the real impact that their everyday actions can have on our local and global environments," says Dianne Yee, Principal of Lord Beaverbrook High School. "It's a tremendous opportunity for our students to enrich their school courses by learning from community experts."
The ENMAX Centre of Excellence program will raise environmental awareness in the school and surrounding community and investigate more ecologically sensitive operations for the school. In addition, ENMAX will provide the school with two $1,000 scholarships to be presented to two Grade 12 students who have displayed outstanding environmental stewardship and community leadership.
“We’re pleased to work with the students and teachers from Lord Beaverbrook High School on environmental stewardship initiatives,” said Peter Hunt, ENMAX Corporation vice president. “Through the scholarship and education program, we hope to be part of enhancing student learning, assist in implementing positive environmental practices, provide applied innovative learning and encourage environmental leadership by the students.”
The ENMAX Centre of Excellence brings together educators, students and ENMAX employees to promote positive environmental practices, encourage environmental leadership and gain knowledge from the program. Lord Beaverbrook and William Aberhart launched the new program in November 2004 and are the first of the Calgary and area high schools involved in this program.
