CALGARY, Alberta — ENMAX Corporation through ENMAX Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENMAX Corporation, announced today the start of the sixth season of ENMAX Rinklighter Pond Hockey.
Through ENMAX Rinklighter Pond Hockey, Atom level athletes (ages nine -10) play shinny hockey with their hockey heroes from the Calgary Flames Alumni, the Western Hockey League, and coaching staff from the Flames organization. Participating athletes are also taught important skills from Hockey Development Associations across the province.
“Since the program began in 1999, more than 3,000 young athletes have faced off against their hockey heroes in a fun game of shinny hockey,” said Al Buchignani, ENMAX interim president and chief executive officer ENMAX Corporation. “We started this program in order to help keep our Canadian winter traditions of ice hockey and skating alive while encouraging young people to lead active lifestyles and learn about teamwork.”
Now in its sixth season, the program will visit 22 randomly selected communities across the province with support from the Calgary Flames, Calgary Hitmen, Red Deer Rebels and Lethbridge Hurricanes organizations.
The program kicks off tonight with the Hurricanes in Lethbridge and wraps up with the Hitmen in Calgary on March 3, 2005. Throughout the season, there will be games in Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Fort Macleod, Cardston, Coaldale, Crowsnest Pass, High River, Airdrie, Cochrane, Innisfail, Lacombe and Ponoka. A detailed game schedule is available on request.
