William Aberhart High School and ENMAX Strike Educational Partnership
For Immediate Release
Calgary
09 Nov 2004

William Aberhart High School and ENMAX Corporation, through its wholly owned subsidiary ENMAX Energy, today announced a new program, the ENMAX Centre of Excellence, focused on Career Pathways and environmental education, specifically in the area of recycling, and fostering leadership skills in Calgary high school students.

“Through this partnership, students will have the opportunity to discover the real impact that their personal actions can have on our world and to extend their learning by working with community experts,” says Marsha Levy, Principal of William Aberhart High School.

The partnership will link to the school’s existing conservation programs with a focus on recycling. Students will continue to recycle traditional materials such as paper, pop cans, and oils but also learn more about how recycling works and benefits the environment.

The ENMAX Centre of Excellence program will raise environmental awareness in the school and surrounding community and investigate more ecologically sensitive operations for the school. In addition, ENMAX will provide the school with two $1,000 scholarships to be presented to two Grade 12 students who have displayed environmental stewardship and community leadership.

“We’re pleased to work with the students and teachers from William Aberhart High School on environmental stewardship initiatives,” said James McKee, ENMAX Energy vice president. “Through the scholarship and education program, we hope to further teach the students about positive environmental practices, provide applied innovative learning and encourage environmental leadership by the students.”

The ENMAX Centre of Excellence brings together educators, students and ENMAX employees to promote positive environmental practices, encourage environmental leadership and gain knowledge from the program. William Aberhart and Lord Beaverbrook are the first of the Calgary and area high schools involved in the program.

ENMAX Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary, provides electricity, natural gas and value-added services to more than 420,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Alberta through its subsidiary companies.
