ENMAX Corporation, through its wholly owned subsidiary ENMAX Energy, today announced three new developments in support of its corporate commitment to renewable energy solutions.
“Renewable energy is an integral part of what we offer Albertans,” said Bob Nicolay, ENMAX president and CEO. “That’s why we continually look for ways to reward Greenmax customers for their environmentally friendly choices and increase the exposure of not only our Greenmax program and its partners but also the renewable energy industry as a whole.”
Effective immediately, ENMAX residential customers who support the Greenmax program will now receive a 20 per cent discount on regular admission to the Calgary Zoo.
"As an organization committed to conservation in its very mission, the Calgary Zoo is delighted to partner with ENMAX in the Greenmax program. By providing this incentive, we give back to the community and show our support and commitment to the environment," says Alex Graham, President and CEO, Calgary Zoological Society.
In addition, small commercial customers who sign a three or five year contract with ENMAX Energy will receive 100 per cent wind generated power for the first year of their contract at no additional cost. This is the first offer in North America to include 100 per cent wind generated power for contracted small commercial customers. Small commercial customers use less than 250,000 kilowatt hours of electricity.
To kick off this new product with the increased focus on renewable power, ENMAX has developed Canada’s first wind powered billboard. The motorized ‘leaf’ windmill billboards are in place in Edmonton and will be displayed in Calgary this January.
“In February, 2003 ENMAX Energy started to include 10 per cent green electricity in every residential customer’s contract,” says Mr. Nicolay. “Adding green to our small commercial contracts is the next step in continuing to be a leader in renewable energy, offering all our customers a clean alternative.”
The ENMAX Greenmax program currently has approximately 10,000 residential customers and commercial customers including the new IKEA store in Calgary, a number of Ivanhoe Cambridge properties including six Alberta shopping centres and two professional offices, McDonald’s restaurants in Calgary, Lethbridge and Red Deer and Cardel Place for Community, Sports and Recreation.
ENMAX’s commitment to renewable energy is receiving attention and recognition in North America with ENMAX being named a finalist in Platt’s Global Energy Awards in the Renewable Project of the Year category.
ENMAX Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary, provides electricity, natural gas and value-added services to more than 420,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Alberta through its subsidiary companies.
