General Principles
ENMAX recognizes the importance of operating in an environmentally ethical and trustworthy manner and in practicing sound environmental management. As an integrated electric utility, ENMAX recognizes that its operations may have an Environmental Impact which should be minimized through responsible management practices that are intended to foster environmental sustainability.
Environmental Commitments
In recognition of its environmental responsibilities, ENMAX will:
- Comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations, guidelines, policies and operating approvals;
- Prevent pollution by identifying significant Environmental Aspects and developing objectives, targets and programs to address them, in accordance with the ISO 14001 standards;
- Strive to achieve continual improvement in managing its Environmental Impacts, by measuring environmental performance and reporting annually on its progress;
- Participate in voluntary industry environmental programs, such as the Canadian Electricity Association’s Environmental Commitment and Responsibility Program;
- Consult and collaborate with its customers, government, industry and other stakeholders in order to ensure that its operations and activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner;
- Conduct those activities and operations having a significant Environmental Aspect in a manner that is consistent with this policy and the EMS;
- Respond to emergency situations and accidents to prevent or mitigate adverse environmental effects.
We have summarized the five main commitments in our policy as:
Prevention of Pollution;
Awareness of environmental issues and
ENMAX's Environmental Policy;
Compliance with environmental laws, regulations and policies;
Continual improvement of environmental performance; and
Training of employees to minimize environmental impacts.
