We are continually developing new environmental initiatives, improving our practices and raising the bar for others in the industry. For example:
- ENMAX is actively developing Greenmax, an alternative energy program supporting wind power. It is the largest program of its kind in Canada and offers customers the opportunity to support the development of renewable energy facilities.
- ENMAX continues to enhance its renewable energy portfolio which includes both wind and run-of-river hydro.
- ENMAX is researching new and innovative technologies to would allow customers to help the environment and save money.
- ENMAX is working with stakeholders and governments to find appropriate and meaningful ways to reduce greenhouse gases in our industry and province.
- ENMAX and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) have come together to develop the ENMAX Centre of Excellence - a program that enhances environmental leadership and student curriculum through applied learning initiatives in Career Pathways and scholarship opportunities for grade 12 students.
- ENMAX takes part in the Mayor’s Environmental Expo in Calgary each year where children have the opportunity to learn about green initiatives being undertaken by ENMAX.
- Over the last few years, ENMAX has been diligently building platforms in close proximity to utility poles around Calgary that osprey have historically selected as their nesting places. The birds tend to nest on the new platforms and as a result the birds are out of harm’s way from the high voltage lines and the risk of service interruptions is greatly diminished. ENMAX, in conjunction with the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, also assisted the Calgary Zoo with their web cam installation which captures the activities of an osprey nest close to the Bow River.
