Wind is one of the most environmentally friendly methods of producing electricity and is gaining popularity in Alberta and the rest of Canada. Wind energy is responsible for the majority of renewable energy in Alberta (about 65%) and the province continues to be a leader in Canada for wind energy production. The use of wind power contributes to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, and wind farm operations help reduce the industry’s environmental footprint.
Utilizing run-of-river, waste heat and wind generation, ENMAX continues to build a strong reputation as the leader in clean energy. ENMAX uses wind power to support our Greenmax program, one of the largest renewable energy marketing programs in North America. The combined generation from green power sources will give ENMAX a total output of 600,000 megawatt hours of emission-free electricity per year, or enough to power the equivalent of 75,000 homes.
ENMAX Green Power Ltd. has 100% interest in the Taber Wind Farm, ENMAX’s latest wind energy venture, and a 50% interest in the McBride Lake Wind Farm located near Fort Macleod in southern Alberta. The projects are supported by the federal government's Wind Power Production Incentive (WPPI) program.
