Clean Energy
Clean energy is produced from resources that are replenished naturally with minimal harm to the environment. Run-of-river uses the natural flow of a river to produce electricity and has no large scale dam or reservoir. It is green technology because it is not disruptive to the surrounding area, produces no emissions, and uses an abundant natural resource.

Through its business development office in Vancouver, British Columbia, ENMAX Corporation has ownership in or is developing a number of run-of-river hydro projects in B.C.

Furry Creek
ENMAX owns and operates an 11 MW run-of-river hydroelectric facility at Furry Creek, British Columbia, located approximately 40 kilometers north of Vancouver.

The Furry Creek Hydro Plant was commissioned on June 10, 2004. A portion of the creek’s flow is diverted to a small powerhouse before the water is returned to its natural watercourse. The water reaches the powerhouse through a penstock which drops 366 metres from the intake and covers 3.2 kilometres. Once the water reaches the powerhouse it is at a very high pressure and is directed into a turbine before it is fed back into Furry Creek. The power generated is connected to the BC Hydro grid through a 1.5 kilometre 69 kV transmission line.

Clowhom River Projects
ENMAX is developing two run-of-river hydro plants of 10 MW each on the Clowhom River, north of Sechelt, B.C. These hydro facilities will be developed by Hydromax Energy Ltd., ENMAX’s Vancouver based business development company, and when complete will sell their power to BC Hydro through a long-term power purchase agreement.

Caribou Creek Project
ENMAX is engaged in public consultation for a proposed run-of-river hydro plant on Caribou Creek west of Burton B.C. This hydro facility will be developed by Hydromax Energy Ltd., ENMAX’s Vancouver based business development company, and when complete will sell their power to BC Hydro through a long-term power purchase agreement.
