The proposed Shepard Energy Centre is an 800 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired power generation facility which will provide enough electricity for over half of Calgary’s requirements.
The proposed Shepard Energy Centre will use efficient combined-cycle technology in which natural gas is burned in state-of-the-art combustion turbines that produce both electricity and heat. The heat is then captured to produce even more electricity through a steam turbine. The facility will be using advanced combustion technology and will produce less than half the carbon dioxide (CO2) per MW than a conventional coal plant.
ENMAX Energy has been working with the local community to share information about the Shepard Energy Centre Project since March 2008. ENMAX Energy hosted an open house on June 25, 2009 to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to provide feedback on the Shepard Energy Centre Project plan and ask questions of our project team. Materials presented at the open house are available in our important documents. Summaries of air, noise and human health studies are also available in our environment section.
ENMAX Energy has developed a detailed video rendering of the Shepard Energy Facility so stakeholders can review the existing landscape of the proposed site and how it will change. The video, which was developed from the engineering plot plan, depicts the facility to-scale and from a variety of views. View video
