The Crossfield Energy Centre

ENMAX Energy Corporation (ENMAX) is proposing to build and operate up to 120 megawatts (MW) of clean, natural gas-fired power generation to help meet southern Alberta’s growing demand for power. The proposed Crossfield Energy Centre “peaking” facility will be designed to meet southern Alberta’s seasonal and daily peak load power requirements.

Facility Description
The ENMAX Crossfield Energy Centre will be designed as a natural gas-fired simple-cycle generation facility. Detailed engineering and design of the Crossfield Energy Centre is not yet complete. More technical details about the facility – including the type of equipment, precise generation capacity, and daily water and gas requirements – will be shared and discussed as project development and public consultation continues.

As a peaking facility, the Crossfield Energy Centre will be designed to meet periods of high electrical demand, which generally occur in the daytime during periods of high summer heat or low winter temperatures. Depending on weather, load growth and customer demand, the Crossfield Energy Centre is expected to operate about 15 to 45 per cent of the time, or approximately 1300 to 3800 hours per year. Simple-cycle technology is typically favoured for meeting peak loads as the turbines can quickly achieve full generation capacity.

Commitment to Community
ENMAX is committed to being an excellent corporate neighbour in the community and will provide timely and meaningful consultation with stakeholders about this proposed facility. ENMAX will work in a collaborative and responsive manner to share information about the proposed Crossfield Energy Centre and listen to, understand and consider stakeholder concerns.

A comprehensive public consultation program has been developed to provide opportunities for interested parties to become engaged in dialogue and information sharing about this project from planning through operations.  Through a series of activities including information packages, community open houses and personal meetings, ENMAX looks forward to building long-term relationships with the local community.
