Apprenticeship Program
ENMAX Power hires skilled technical tradespeople to fulfill our mandate of "keeping the lights on" and delivering safe, reliable electricity as we've done for nearly a century.

New candidates are admitted to our apprenticeship program each year. We mix hands-on training with technical schooling and support Careers - the Next Generation and the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP).

Fields
Power Lineman (M/F)- You will be provided training in the areas of repair and construct both overhead and underground power lines. You will need a High School Diploma with Math 20 or equivalent and Physics 20.


Power Systems Electrician (Meters) –You will be trained to test, repair, maintain and install metering equipment. We are looking for graduates of a 2-year Electrical Technology course from a recognized technical institute such as SAIT or NAIT.


Power Systems Electrician (Substations) –You will be trained to test, repair, maintain and construct substation equipment. We are looking for graduates of a 2-year Electrical Technology course from a recognized technical institute such as SAIT or NAIT.

Program Information

The Power System Electrician (PSE) Apprenticeship offers an exceptional training program that is 100% paid by ENMAX. All work is done local to the Calgary area providing a great work life balance.

The three year apprenticeship starts with a 2 week orientation where you will receive a Company Overview, Safety and Trades training. After the orientation, you will have the opportunity to rotate through approximately 5 - 7 different business areas, 6 months each in duration.

During the second and third year of the apprenticeship you will attend NAIT to complete a 10 week training program once a year.

The PSE apprenticeship provides exposure to:

  • Construction of substations
  • Maintenance of substations
  • "Best in Class" tools, safety & equipment
  • State of the art network system
  • Wage is paid when in school (NAIT)
  • Opportunities for advancement once attaining journeyman status

Important Dates

January
The job posting and ENMAX PSE Apprentice Facebook fan page will be launched in January.

March
Applications for the PSE Apprenticeship will be accepted until March 28, 2011. After the job posting closes, the PSE Management Team screens and selects candidates to interview. Interviews are held in mid to late March.

April
Final candidates are selected and offer letters are sent out in late April.

June 2011
The PSE Apprenticeship begins May 16, 2011.
