Health and Safety

At ENMAX, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our employees, contractors, and the public. In 2007, two significant initiatives were introduced that have reinforced the importance of safe work practices and have helped make an appreciable difference in our overall safety performance.

Values Based Safety

In March of 2007 ENMAX Power Corporation, the ENMAX subsidiary with the greatest number of employees who work in safety-sensitive positions, introduced a Values Based Safety program that was developed with the assistance of Houston-based Quality Safety Edge Inc., a well-known industry leader in behaviour based safety programs. Developed with a high degree of participation from ENMAX Power Corporation employees, the peer-based program focuses on observation and positive feedback leading to frequent and meaningful interactions about safety practices. Its intent is to heighten day-to-day awareness of safety, while building an environment where employees are continually looking out for each other, and keeping safe work practices top-of-mind.

Safety Absolutes for ENMAX (S.A.F.E.)

In April of 2007 management introduced the Safety Absolutes for ENMAX (S.A.F.E.) which set out safety obligations for both employees and management to uphold. The S.A.F.E. document was widely communicated and discussed throughout the organization and reinforces the fact that working safely underpins all of our core values. S.A.F.E. is a mutual commitment made by management, employees, unions and contractors to form a partnership to drive towards a workplace free of injuries.
