Composition of Workforce

As of December 31, 2009, ENMAX directly employed 1,678 people. This includes management professional employees and unionized employees across the ENMAX companies and excludes our Board of Directors, as they are not employees.

A total of 1,102 employees, or 65% of the workforce are members of either The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) or the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) – the two unions representing ENMAX employees. Non-union employees are classified as Management Professionals (MP).

The majority of ENMAX employees worked in Alberta and nine individuals worked in our B.C. operations as of December 31, 2009. The following tables illustrate our workforce composition.

Employee Turnover
The following chart indicates ENMAX’s employee turnover rate by age group, gender and region. Overall, our organization's combined voluntary (including retirements) and involuntary turnover rate for both full-time and part-time regular employees is 16.2%. This represents an increase over ENMAX’s turnover rate in 2008, which is attributed, in part, to a workforce reduction in the customer care organization following the implementation of our new billing system. ENMAX's employee turnover rate includes voluntary turnovers for employees who are retiring.
