Corporate Key Performance Indicators and Targets
Annually, ENMAX's executive team establishes environmental key performance indicators (KPIs) to set targets for our employees to achieve by the end of the year. In 2009, these KPIs included:

EcoPledge
GOAL: 95% of all employees were to sign or renew an EcoPledge, which asks employees to make specific commitments to reduce their energy and resource use.

RESULT: Achieved.
By April 30, 2009, 98% of ENMAX employees signed the EcoPledge, surpassing the target.

GOAL: Engage 95% of employees to participate in an EcoPledge tracking survey to assess whether they held true to their commitments throughout the year.

RESULT: Unmet
In 2009, 85% of employees who signed or renewed their EcoPledge participated in a tracking survey to assess whether they remained committed to their EcoPledge.

Carbon Footprint Reduction
GOAL: 5% reduction in our internal corporate greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) per employee from a 2008 base year. This excludes generation plants, B.C. operations and leased facilities.

RESULT: Achieved.
The scope of the carbon footprint includes: fuel consumption for business travel using personal vehicles, energy use (electricity and natural gas) at ENMAX facilities (excluding leased sites), sulphur hexaflouride gas management and our ENMAX fleet vehicle fuel consumption. The target is based upon reductions from a 2008 baseline. GHG emissions from our generation plants fall under a separate GHG management strategy.

Absolute GHG emissions measured in CO2 equivalent were 15,828 tonnes CO2 in 2008 and 15,634 tonnes in 2009. PricewaterhouseCoopers provided assurance on the carbon footprint. Although emission factors change as they are updated by scientific and government bodies, to compare our progress year-over-year we have set a reporting policy to use the same emission factors over a three-year period, using 2008 as our base year. We will establish a new base year with updated emission factors in 2012.

Currently the sources for emission factors to calculate the carbon dioxide equivalent in GHG emissions include:

In absolute terms, our GHG emissions remained relatively constant. Decreases in emissions from fleet vehicle fuel consumption and sulphur hexafluoride releases were offset by increased emissions from additional energy use.
