Hybrid Bucket Truck Introduced to ENMAX Vehicle Fleet
EMAX expanded its existing fleet of 28 gasoline hybrid vehicles in 2009 to include the first hybrid utility bucket truck in Calgary. The hybrid bucket truck's aerial device has 60% improved fuel economy in utility applications, due to its ability to operate off of the truck's battery.
Energy Use
The energy consumption at our facilities includes power and natural gas used at four ENMAX-owned building locations and various substations in Calgary.
Corporate Energy Consumption

[1] ENMAX leases parts of buildings where there are no dedicated meters to record ENMAX-specific energy consumption and they are therefore not included in the energy consumption totals. Leased facilities include three offices in Calgary, and one office each in the cities of Edmonton and Vancouver. Leased facilities are purposely excluded to avoid inaccurate reporting.
The total square feet excluded from Corporate Energy consumption metrics represents about one sixth of the total area of ENMAX-owned office buildings.
Electricity and natural gas consumption has increased from 2007 to 2009 by approximately 9% and 12% respectively. Electricity consumption increases were primarily the result of additional data servers at our headquarters (ENMAX Place), as well as increased building occupancy in some cases. Increased natural gas use is also attributed to increased building occupancy.
The in-house initiatives that were promoted throughout the year such as installing light sensors, shutting off lights and computers and printers, and the gains achieved were largely negated due to the increase in overall energy use.
