Formula-Based Ratemaking

ENMAX Power made regulatory history on March 25, 2009 when the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) issued its favourable decision on our application for formula-based ratemaking (FBR). This is the first time FBR has been approved for use by an electric utility in Alberta.

The new FBR formula introduces more of an incentive-based approach to the way ENMAX Power sets its rates. This will encourage ENMAX Power to strive for higher levels of efficiency and productivity. The FBR formula is structured for the benefit of customers as ENMAX Power will share its efficiencies over a certain threshold through lower rates. The AUC approved ENMAX Power's FBR plan for a seven-year term.
