Are ENMAX Corporation profits being made at the expense of Calgary and other Alberta households?
No. Most of our profit is made from other parts of the market. Here’s why:
Alberta’s restructured electricity industry has led to many risks and opportunities for our municipally-owned company. The City of Calgary decided to set up a commercial company, run by commercial people to go and make profits for Calgary in the commercial market place. Now we have two quite different operations within ENMAX Corporation.
One that keeps the lights on and supplies power to homes and small businesses throughout Calgary and other parts of Alberta. This part of the company is very tightly regulated by the EUB and supplies among the lowest cost power in Alberta and makes only a small part of our profits.
The profit you read about comes from the other side of the business which operates in a commercial marketplace all over Alberta. The company financials provide you with much more detailed information.
