Environmental Policy

General Principles

ENMAX recognizes the importance of operating in an environmentally ethical and trustworthy manner and in practicing sound environmental management. As an integrated electric utility, ENMAX recognizes that its operations have the potential to cause Environmental Impacts which should be minimized through responsible management practices that are intended to foster Environmental Sustainability.

Environmental Commitments

In recognition of its environmental responsibilities, ENMAX will:

  1. Prevent pollution by identifying Environmental Aspects and developing objectives, targets and programs to address the significant Environmental Aspects, in accordance with the ISO 14001 standards;
  2. Conduct those activities and operations with the potential to have an Environmental Impact in a manner that is consistent with this policy and the EMS;
  3. Communicate and make the Environmental Policy accessible to all Employees and persons working on behalf of ENMAX;
  4. Consult and collaborate with its customers, government, industry and other stakeholders in order to ensure that its operations and activities with Environmental Aspects are conducted in an responsible manner;
  5. Comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations, guidelines, policies and operating approvals;
  6. Participate in voluntary industry environmental programs, including the Canadian Electricity Association’s Sustainable Electricity (SE) Program;
  7. Strive to achieve continual improvement in managing its Environmental Impacts, by measuring environmental performance and reporting annually on its progress;
  8. Respond to emergency situations and accidents to prevent or mitigate adverse environmental effects and
  9. Provide training to ensure competence and minimize Environmental Impacts.

The main commitments of the policy are summarized in a PACCT to protect the environment which is communicated as:

Prevention of Pollution;
Awareness of Environmental Policy and Environmental Aspects;
Compliance with environmental laws, regulations and policies;
Continual improvement of the management system and overall performance.; and
Training to ensure competence and minimize Environmental Impacts.
